On reflection, IPPC’s latest report last week could’ve done with a better media strategy, as the release was completely inundated by coverage of the geopolitical and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The latter is urgent and requires immediate international action, yet the former is also a crisis deserving of the world’s attention and a multilateral response as much as any other.

The 3,675 pages were eagerly anticipated by climate watchers but, with mainstream audiences, nobody was in the forest to hear the tree fall. In brief, the planet is on track for at least 1.5C warming above pre-industrial temperatures though the key revelation is the threat posed by 1.5C itself.
